Could 2025 be the year we finally get a new Head Automatica record?! While those odds may be slim, the Daryl Palumbo-led group has returned with their second new single in nearly two decades. “Annulment” bursts open with jittery electronics before Palumbo’s vocals take on an open-throated intensity, reminiscent of Davey Havok (AFI), channeling a feverish funk throughout the track.
“The song ‘Annulment’ is Head Automatica‘s sound but pushed forward a bit in terms of the mood and production,” Palumbo shares in a press release. “We wanted to maintain all of the colorful production with intricate electronic and sample-based elements while allowing more space for the overall song’s feeling and dynamics to stand out. Ensuring the mood of the track carries it while still remaining body-moving is the delicate balance within ‘Annulment.'”

Last year, following the release of “Bear The Cross”—their first new song in 17 years—the band returned to the stage for a string of live performances, including a stop at Bowery Ballroom. It was during this May 29, 2024, show that they debuted “Annulment” (then credited as “Together”) for the first time. Check out a clip of that live performance below.
