Green Day's American Idiot Brings Boy Out Of A Coma

Green Day’s American Idiot Brings Boy Out Of A Coma Monday March 14, 2005 @ 04:00 PM

Green Day Green Day ‘s latest release American Idiot has done a lot for the band. They’ve been gaining critical acclaim from the punk rock opera and won a Grammy, but now the album’s done something the band never expected. American Idiot woke a fan from a coma.

Nine-year-old Welsh boy, Corey George woke from a two-week coma only an hour after being played the album.

He’d been unconscious ever since his ninth birthday, when he was hit by a 4×4 car in Aberaman, South Wales. On March 6, his mom brought in his favourite album to play for him and a short time later, George opened his eyes and moved his fingers and toes.

The boy’s father said George was always listening to Green Day and the disc’s title track and hit single was his favourite song.

The Green Day trio are obviously pleased to hear of the turnaround their music brought about. They sent him a box full of their other albums and merchandise and hope he continues to recover.

Right now, Green Day are flying off to Japan to continue touring in support of the album. They’ll be making a few stops in Canada, so if you missed them the first time around you have another chance.
