Green Day played their Coachella Weekend 2 headlining set on April 19, and they had many surprises for the day. To intro their set, Punk Bunny, aka their coffee brand mascot, ran across the stage. Then, the pink head popped off to reveal Flavor Flav.
The rapper and US women’s water polo team financial supporter (and super fan), of course, shared his iconic “Yeahhhhh boy!” to get the crowd hyped for Green Day.
On Instagram, Flavor Flav shared, “Hoppy Easter from The Punk Bunny and Greenday and Flavor Flav,,, WOOWWWW,!! This was wild,!! Thankx to Tre and Mike and Billie Joe and their team for helping pull off such an iconic moment,!!!”
This wasn’t the only iconic moment at Green Day’s Coachella Weekend 2 set. Billie Joe Armstrong appeared onstage donning a neon green BRAT baseball cap, while Tré Cool shared a backstage photo in a handmade “Actual Headliner” sash—to which Charli XCX commented, “obsessed.”
This follows up on Weekend 1’s small controversy where Charli XCX sported a sash with the words, “Miss Should Be Headliner.” While this seemed like a bratty joke (hence her LP’s title), many punk fans took offense to this dig. This past weekend, Green Day had a bit of lighthearted fun.
Plus, would it be a Green Day show without some political lyric changes and speeches? Ahead of “Minority,” Armstrong said, “This song is about unity. Don’t let those political bastards take you down, because we don’t stand for fascism, ladies and gentlemen.”
Additionally, Armstrong changed the lyrics of “Jesus Of Suburbia” to, “Am I retarded, or am I just JD Vance?” Check out the full setlist below.
