The Goo Goo Dolls release their latest effort, Gutterflower, on Tuesday (April 9). The Goo Goo Dolls’ 1998 album, Dizzy Up The Girl, reached sales of more than 3 million copies. Singer-songwriter Johnny Rzeznik revealed these sales figures were in the back of his mind with Gutterflower.
“I think the biggest obstacle was getting that thought out of your head like, ‘Wow, we had this record and it was really popular, and what if we don’t do it again?’ And then, finally, the answer, as simple as it is, came. ‘If you don’t do it again, you don’t do it again. You have no control over that.’ So, I guess the big lesson was, ‘Don’t worry about things you have no control over.'”
To celebrate the release of Gutterflower, the Goo Goo Dolls are scheduled for an in-store Tuesday (April 9) at New York City’s FYE, which is located at 1290 Avenue Of The Americas. The band is set to perform selections from Gutterflower and sign copies of the CD after the performance.
“Here Is Gone,” the first single from Gutterflower, is at Number 22 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. The song is also at Number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
