Taking Back Sunday has released a nearly seven-minute video statement addressing why guitarist and co-vocalist John Nolan will not be joining them on tour this summer. In the announcement, frontman Adam Lazzara and the band revealed that longtime member Fred Mascherino will be returning to take his place. Mascherino, who originally played with the group from 2003 to 2007, will rejoin for their upcoming summer tour alongside co-headliners Coheed And Cambria.

After testing the waters during the band’s 2024 holiday shows—where Mascherino joined them on stage—the pieces started falling into place.

Nolan shares, “Once Fred was on board, then it became just a matter of starting to talk about how we would make it work. And then possibility of doing some festival shows with me and him all playing together. And then that also added to that excitement that, ‘Okay, it could be something where it’s not just he’s stepping in for me,’ but that for the first time, we’re all playing a set together, and he’s singing songs that he originally sang on and recorded, and I’m doing the ones that I have and that we’re also bringing new elements into those songs by playing together.”
