Ron Fair has been named president of A&M Records, Interscope Geffen A&M is expected to announce today. Fair comes to A&M from RCA, where he was senior vp A&R since 1993. The A&M presidency has been vacant since Interscope Geffen A&M was combined under chairman Jimmy Iovine in 1999 as a result of Universal Music Group’s merger with PolyGram.
Fair will be charged with rebuilding the label that was started by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss during the early 1960s and sold to PolyGram in 1989. While at RCA, Fair was responsible for discovering and developing pop sensation Christina Aguilera and signing the rock band Lit. Before RCA, Fair was senior vp A&R at EMI Records. Interscope Geffen A&M is a subsidiary of Universal Music Group.
