Essence has released exclusive audio recorded during a conversational interview of Sean “P. Diddy” Combs with his friend and writer Dream Hampton for the May Cover Issue. Combs became emotional during the recording as he spoke of the passing of his soul mate Kim Porter. He wasn’t expecting as vulnerable as he was during the interview and wasn’t completely on board with the audio being released but agreed to it after he recognized the positive impact it could have on culture. In the recording He says “…This Mother’s Day is going to hurt. We’re definitely going to celebrate all the mothers…but honestly anybody that’s lost a mother, lost a soulmate, it takes time. They say time heals all wounds when it comes to your mother…but I don’t think that’s the case…” This emotional availability is brave and sets a beautiful example. We applaud his open heart.
