Ever since it was announced last month that Eminem had been nominated for four Grammy Awards, including the coveted Album of the Year, two questions have hung in the air: Will he attend the show? Will he perform?
Well, one of those questions has finally been answered.
When the music industry hands out this year’s crop of Grammys on February 21, Eminem says he will be on hand.
“It’s hilarious, you know what, and that’s why I’m gonna go,” the rapper recently told MTV Europe with regard to the controversy surrounding his armload of nominations and how it affected his decision to attend. “It’s because everyone doesn’t want my ass there, so I’m going to sit my stinking ass down next to ‘N Sync and flick pennies at them and fucking just stand in everybody’s face and say ‘kiss my ass.’ ”
There’s still no word on whether or not Eminem will perform on the show.
The rapper is taking his nominations in stride, as he told MTV Europe, “To be honest, I can’t even tell you how I feel [about the nominations], because I get nominated for a lot of awards and lately have been winning a lot of awards.
“I guess it’s an accomplishment,” he continued, “and it’s not that I don’t appreciate it, but I don’t focus on it. I just kind of keep going with my music. … [Awards are] great, but that doesn’t mean for me to stop or that I can lay back and say ‘I’ve accomplished this, I’m straight, I don’t need to keep working.’ It’s just, OK, that happened.’ Good or bad, I take the good with the bad.”
Eminem’s four nominations have raised the ire of gay rights activists, many of whom will join the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation to protest the rapper’s appearance at the awards show.
