A five-year-in-the-making Godsmack documentary will be released on April 9th on DVD. Smack This! is a video diary dating back to the band’s early days in its hometown of Boston, and it compiles live performances, backstage footage, and interviews with singer Sully Erna, guitarist Tony Rombola, bassist Robbie Merril and drummer Tommy Stewart.
The DVD features previously unreleased concert footage as well as early performances of their first hit single, “Whatever,” and the track “Get Up Get Out,” but it mainly focuses on Godsmacks’s rise from local heroes to national headliners.
The new Godsmack song “I Stand Alone” can be found on the soundtrack to The Scorpion King, which is out this week. The film is the third in the series that began with The Mummy.
Godsmack are also up for several Boston Music Awards including Rock Band of the Year, Single of the Year and Video of the Year. The ceremony will be held on April 11th.
