Doc Who Allegedly Prescribed Addictive Drugs To Courtney Love Gets License Revoked

The Medical Board of California has revoked the license of a Los Angeles area doctor for prescribing addictive drugs to celebrities, allegedly including Courtney Love and Winona Ryder.

Jules Mark Lusman, a 49-year-old laser surgery specialist, may also face criminal prosecution for his practice, which purportedly included making house calls and prescribing Demerol and other drugs for cash.

Lusman, who denied the allegations in an “Inside Edition” interview on Monday, argued before the medical board that “his care and treatment fell within the standard of care at all times for a physician in his community with his practice emphasis.”

In the board’s report, a person identified as “C.L.,” who was “a fairly well-known musician” who “at one time had been married to Mr. C., who had passed away,” received Demerol and prescriptions for syringes and the hypnotic drugs Ambien and Xanax from Lusman during the summer of 2001.

While a spokesperson for the board could not reveal the identity of “C.L.,” two sources familiar with the investigation told the Los Angeles Times it was Love.

Love’s manager, James Barber, declined to comment.

Another source familiar with the investigation noted that the Medical Board of California did not interview Love or fully investigate if what appeared in Lusman’s files was true.
