Disney decided to just remake all our childhood favorites and honestly, with how they’re looking, you can’t be mad. The first glimpse of the live-action Mulan film is stunning. The movie ins’t entirely a remake though, set for release March 27, 2020, it won’t include any of the songs from the 1998 release. While much of the movie will be familiar it is also influenced by the 6th-century poem “The Ballad of Mulan”.
The cast is an epic collection of talent starring Liu Yifei, known by some as Crystal Liu, an accomplished Chinese star who earned the role of Mulan in a casting pool of over 1,000 actors. Skilled in martial arts the multi-talented Liu appears to be the perfect fit as Hua Mulan who disguises herself as a man to fight in the Emperor’s army. The film also stars martial arts greats Donnie Yen, Jet Li, and esteemed dramatic actress Gong Li. The Zookeeper’s Wife director, Niki Caro is sure to deliver a film full of passion and beauty no matter how it varies from the animated classic.
