Clear Channel Taps John Martin to Head New Interactive Unit

Clear Channel Radio President and COO John Hogan today named John Martin VP/GM of the new Clear Channel Radio Interactive team. Clear Channel Radio Interactive formed after Clear Channel realigned its Internet division, placing radio website development and sales in the hands of the radio stations. Martin and his team of website developers, content editors, and sales executives now work for the radio division, providing technical expertise and marketing muscle.

According to Hogan, Martin’s primary focus is to help the stations drive revenue through their websites. “John’s most important role is to develop and close business for the web as well as generate new website sales opportunities for the local markets and regions. John has the background, vision, and experience to help interactive advertising and promotions take on a new level in Clear Channel Radio.”

This promotion brings Martin full circle on Clear Channel’s Internet initiatives. Two years ago he was recruited out of Critical Mass Media to head up the fledgling Web Services Group. Under his leadership CC Interactive was instrumental in moving over 800 Clear Channel radio stations to the worldwide web. Martin personally took over the Interactive Sales organization to develop Internet advertising on the sites. Returning to the VP/GM role of Interactive is a natural for Martin. “With Interactive under the Radio Division we can now target multi-platform promotions using our web presence. Clear Channel has an unduplicated total package of advertising opportunities, including the sites. We’ve just begun to scratch the surface on the revenue opportunities available by combining the reach of radio with the interactivity of the websites. Stay tuned.”

Martin has been with the Clear Channel senior management team for over 10 years, including an 8-year stint as president of Critical Mass Media. In his new role, he will work out of the Clear Channel Radio Interactive Chicago office.
