Middle school isn’t getting any easier, and Bo Burnham is here to show us why with his new film, Eighth Grade. Gone are the days of Hannah Montana and Blackberries, and in comes the age of Snapchat, Instagram, and vlogging.
In the first trailer for the movie, which is set to hit theaters July 13th, we meet Kayla (Elsie Fisher). The first thing to notice is that she’s not the overworked, artificially made teenager we usually see in films. Instead, she looks just like you and your friends did in 8th grade.
The film follows Kayla as she tries to navigate growing up, school, popularity, and perhaps most importantly—making it online. The authenticity of the project has already earned rave reviews, and it’s looking like Burnham’s debut voyage into film is going to be a hit.
