It seems like comedian and musician Bo Burnham is cooking up something new for 2025. After rising to fame in the 2010s with his cheeky lyrics and hilarious rhymes, Burnham began taking an even darker approach to his comedy when his 2021 special Inside was released. Now, it’s time to go outside, perhaps.

Now, Burnham—who now lists his name as Robert, not Bo, on socials—has wiped his Instagram and posted a few cryptic videos on TikTok. In January, Burnham began posting video outtakes from Inside, including one where he says, “It’s very upsetting that the future is in front of now, do you know what I mean? Like that we have to keep living from now onward.”
Then, he dropped videos of crashing beach waves in the dark as well as three different posts spelling the word “OUT.”
His TikTok bio reads: “stay, outside. 6 days remain – @pleasestayoutside on youtube.”
When one heads to the YouTube page, viewers will find two videos, both nearly one minute in length. They both feature beach noises, though “NOTIR_OTSD.mov” features the visual of waves as well as what sounds like the beginning of a forthcoming piano song.
It seems like the right time to strap in for more Burnham odes in the next week. Whether this is a full-fledged comedy project or something deeper and more philosophical remains to be seen. Needless to say, the artist does have a knack for helping his audience feel understood through dark times.
In 2021, his special Inside touched on themes of isolation during lockdown, mental health issues, internet addiction, corporate greed, systemic racism, and sexting, (of course), many viewers really found themselves relating to the Netflix film. It’s truly a time capsule of the political and social movements of the early 2020s (Ex: Covid-19 pandemic, George Floyd protests, TikTok popularity).
