No matter how you prefer your Starbucks order, Anna Shoemaker‘s new single “Iced Coffee” will always hit the spot. The twangy indie track delicately weaves a narrative about the unique grief that follows a breakup. As per usual, Shoemaker perfectly articulates feelings that are fleeting and nuanced.
Shoemaker says, “‘Iced Coffee’ is about that moment of weakness after a break up where you’re like, ‘Wait, no, never mind, I’m lying I love you more than anything.’ When you’ve been with someone so long the thought of losing them is the scariest thing in the world—even if it is for the better.”

She adds, “I think this song is about me not being able to fathom that loss. I really wish that love could be enough when it comes to a relationship but there are just so many other pieces that have to fit when you want to share a life with someone.”

Excitingly, “Iced Coffee” will appear on her forthcoming record Someone Should Stop Her, available on February 21 via +1 Records. Previously released tracks “Close To The Sun,” “Fields,” and “Game Of Thrones” will also appear on the LP.
Of the record, Shoemaker took to Instagram to say, “Constantine and I wrote this album in Long Island and then drove down to Nashville to record at our friend John’s studio. We actually ended up rewriting a lot of it in Nashville. I think once we got in the car to drive down there we were like, ‘Holy shit holy shit we are uprooting our lives to make this— it better be absolutely exactly what we want it to be.’”
She continues, “I can say on my end that this album is indeed exactly everything I wanted and needed it to be. I can’t wait for you to hear it. From the bottom of my heart thank you so much for listening, I love you!”
Shoemaker is currently wrapping up her support slot on Joe P‘s headlining tour. You can check out her full touring schedule below and purchase tickets here.
