311 Adds 'Chaos' To Top 10

Punk-funk rockers 311 have earned the third top 10 debut of their career with the arrival of their sixth album, From Chaos, on the Billboard 200 album chart. The group’s Volcano Records debut claimed the Number 10 spot, selling more than 82,000 copies, according to sources.

Nick Hexum, 311’s frontman, tells LAUNCH that he knew they were on to something with From Chaos, just based on the reaction by fans since the album’s release last week. “We’re definitely having the strongest reaction of any debut ever, you know, because, our breakthrough album, our third album, took over a year to really start picking up and then, you know, there was some excitement for the next two albums but they were so much more experimental and kinda weird,” he said. “And now I think all the kids are saying, ‘They’re really getting back to basics, the hard and the fast stuff.’ So there’s more excitement than there’s ever been.”

The group’s best debut to date is 1997’s Transistor, which came in at Number Four. 311’s 1999 album, Soundsystem, claimed the Number Nine slot in its first week.

Look for 311 on the Warped Tour (owned by LAUNCH Media), which arrives today (June 28) in Ventura, California.
