Kali EP

Emily Bell & the Talkbacks

“Don’t waste our time / Dim our light / Won’t be quiet / We don’t do that anymore”

Back with a new sound, and invoking the Hindu goddess of destruction, Emily Bell set some high expectations with her new Kali EP. She has blown right past them. From the first guitar riff of “Can’t Talk Back” you will know that Bell has come to be heard loud and powerful. The rhythm of the first track makes it perfect for a wild road trip, a dance party, or just making you feel like you can do anything you set your heart to.

Slowing down a bit with “Goddess of Destruction” and “Goldmine,” Bell continues with her declaration of feminine empowerment and love. Through the lyrics “Oh and yes I’m falling to my knees / And I talk to fear and fear talks to me” Bell lets you know that falling apart can be the first step to building something new and beautiful. This is what makes the EP, named after the goddess of destruction, hopeful—Kali shows that something different can come from the remains of what is broken.
