With warmer weather on the horizon, it may be time to break out the poppier songs on your music device. And who better to freshen up your “Summer Jams 2016” playlist than Crash the Party?
The duo—Ian Reebs and Christopher Swane—deliver three infectious pop rock tracks on their latest EP, Planetary. Produced entirely by the band themselves (made possible by their Patreon), the songs showcase Crash the Party’s creativity in its purest form: bright and peppy, with catchy hooks and the right balance of electric guitars and synths.
Opening track “Pretend” boasts the rare achievement of successfully using a pick-up line as cheesy as “Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?” in a way that makes you smile rather than scowl. It flows into the first single,“You Know It”, which could have been an early The Ready Set song with its playful instrumentation and cheeky instructional lyrics like “Step one: take my hand and squeeze it…”. Last but not least, the title track, “Planetary”, with its intergalactic lyrics and addictive guitar riff, is made to be a sing-along and really encompasses what the EP, and Crash the Party, is all about: modern day pop with a hint of rock ’n’ roll.
