In the wake of their highly anticipated sophomore full-length album, wear your heart out, which arrived independently in August 2023, the dynamic trio, Nightly, stopped by the idobi Radio Studio in Los Angeles for a special performance of “like i do.” The group’s latest album, featuring the captivating track that the trio brought to life in the studio, serves as the follow-up to their their well-received debut album, 2020’s night, love you.

Delving into the heart of “like i do,” Nightly delicately stripped away the track’s shimmering, sunlit guitars and the vibrant essence that defined the original recording. The trio’s rendition transcended the familiar. This stripped-down version guided the song into a realm of mellowness and melancholy. This new take breathed a fresh life into the already immensely popular single. (On Spotify alone, “like i do” has been streamed over one million times since its release). Throughout the performance, Jonathan Capeci’s nuanced vocal approach added an introspective warmth. He effortlessly infused the lyrics with emotional depth. Specifically, the chorus emphasizes the sentiment with the lyrics, “‘Cause I don’t want anyone beside you/Anyone beside you/No one loves you like I do, like I do.” The toned-down vocal delivery, skillfully navigating the intricate emotional landscape, introduced a layer of vulnerability and raw authenticity.
Additionally, Nightly incorporated an acoustic guitar into their performance to complement the electric guitar and keyboard found in the original. The acoustic guitar’s gentle strumming provided an organic and grounding quality, seamlessly blending with the studio’s atmosphere and accentuating the pervasive mellowness.
