Keeping things cryptic, twenty one pilots are teasing their next single, “Next Semester,” off of their forthcoming full-length, Clancy. The duo posted on their Instagram two photos showcasing, presumably, vocalist Tyler Joseph’s legs and drummer Josh Dun’s arm resting on a cymbal, along with a “leaked” video snippet of a crowd while they perform the song. The preview of it gives an air of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” vibe with dulled-out imagery partnered with moshing.
“I don’t wanna be here,” sings Joseph to the crowd as they scream it back for the perfect harmony. With the sound leaning more into the early 2000s/late ‘90s punk energy, this incoming track might depart from their traditional alt-emo-rap-rock rhythms.
Their post with the teaser reads, “Next Semester, Next Week.” Regardless of what day this drops and what to expect sonically, fans are showing their excitement in the comments. “SOUNDING LIKE AN ANTHEM ALREADY” types user mathieux_davis. Another user, legendpilotss made a joke about the title, “Is this a sign that my next semester is gonna be good or bad.”

The devoted Skeleton Clique is ready for what’s next in the Ohio act’s cinematic universe. Last week, Joseph took to his Twitter to announce that every track off of Clancy will have a music video, including one unspecified song that will have two different versions.
“Overcompensate” was released last month to usher in this new era. The music video establishes an alternative world that the two bandmates navigate to complete their story, all while encountering Blurryface, the banditos, and other homages to their past albums.
Their sixth studio album comes out on May 17, and fans can pre-order the record through their site.
