The OG emo kings have just announced their plans to drop their first new song in 13 years tonight. Thursday excited fans with an X/Twitter thread this morning explaining what this next step means for the group. The single artwork for the new track was included in their post. The image features a black-and-white photo of a building on fire being extinguished by firefighters, and is titled, “Application For Release From The Dream.”

A prominent scene staple, the emo act detailed that this is their first release in 25 years without a label’s support and backing. “Now we are free. Free to make our own mistakes. Free to turn this band into whatever we dream it to be, whether we want to make it a collective of rotating members, a small cottage industry, a publishing house, a record label, or just a group of friends still having fun together after all these years. So tonight, we step on stage at a tiny independent venue like we would’ve played when we were releasing Full Collapse.”

The New Jersey group concluded their message, saying, “Because no matter the size of the stages we’ve played in those 25 years, we remain—at heart—a small band, a bunch of kids still screaming in a basement. But we’re your small band, and we love you. Thanks for everything.” With this unexpected announcement comes the giddiness in every hardcore and/or emo kid that’s building up until the track drops tonight. Fans in Albany, New York, this evening will get to hear this track live for the first time at a sold-out show at Empire Underground. Thursday has a few more U.S. dates scheduled before heading overseas to perform in Europe and the UK. The act will then appear in Las Vegas, NV, at When We Were Young Fest, where they will play their iconic LP, Full Collapse. For more information, head to their site.
