When life gets heavy, it’s our friends who help us find our way out of the darkness. We all need these ride-or-die support systems, and The Ready Set is letting his fans know that he is there for them with his new song “Teammate.” Marking his second new single since 2022, the track blends acoustic guitar with Jordan Witzigreuter’s flowing vocals, reminding the listener that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Witzigreuter sings, “I’m your teammate/In this terrifying age/In this modern little cage/We all wanna break out” to describe the universal feelings of self-doubt and anxiety that we all feel from time to time. The world we live in can be scary, but the people we love can distract us from the mayhem and allow us to enjoy the little things. And most importantly, music is the universal language that brings beauty and hope into our lives.

The cover art for the single is also particularly interesting. Depicting a small tree drawn in black and white, a red planet floats behind. This image symbolizes the color that can be found in life’s most dull moments, or perhaps, that we will all continue to grow and bloom if we let our friends in to support us.

The Ready Set loves writing about self-acceptance and growth. The band’s comeback single “Who You Really Are” tackles these themes with a similarly uplifting tone. Witzigreuter sat down with our very own Fish to discuss the meaning behind the song.

“It’s really chaotic sounding. I have so much new stuff…In my head, I was like, ‘This is not the first thing that you would put out responsibly, and be like, look at my new thing that everyone’s going to love.’ It may be polarizing, which I kind of wanted. The whole vibe of it feels like sort of a mix of what all of the new stuff is, it’s so many different things at once. It’s supposed to feel really chaotic, it just feels like anxiety. Which sort of sums up a lot of the thesis of this and that. But it’s hopeful, too.”

If you’re wanting to catch The Ready Set live, don’t fret! The alt/pop project is opening for Boys Like Girls on two dates of their North American tour. They’ll be hitting the stage Sunday, October 1 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, CA, and at the House Of Blues Las Vegas on October 2. Gracing the stage alongside LOLO, 3OH!3, and State Champs as well, these shows will be magical.
