Bands covering other bands! Emo act Ben Quad has covered their label and tourmates Arm’s Length’s song, “In Loving Memory,” via Wax Bodega. The act repurposes the original song into a faster rendition, with a concoction of modern pop-punk that’s infused with original emo riffs. Needless to say, listening to both side-by-side, changes the game.

“We wanted to challenge ourselves and try to make the song our own by adding our own style of riffs and vocal melodies but make it distinctive,” says frontman Sam Wegrzynski about why they chose to cover this particular track. He explains that it has the same energy and feeling as one of their songs. Comparing the Oklahoma four-piece to their Canadian counterparts, Ben Quad adds anger and resentment mixed with a twinkly guitar that illustrates another emote: confusion. While written by another act entirely, this alternate emotive direction impacts to the same level as Arm’s Length’s original, but in a different format.

This isn’t the last we’ll hear of from the tour package, which includes the Philadelphia, PA trio, Carly Cosgrove. Each act is covering one another’s songs in anticipation of their Wax Bodega Tour. Vinyl of the covers will be available exclusively, at their upcoming performances.
