Spanish Love Songs Preview ‘No Joy’ LP Release With “Marvel”

Spanish Love Songs Spring 2023

Spanish Love Songs have unveiled the ethereal-laced new single, “Marvel,” pulled from their eagerly-awaited album, No Joy. Serving as the final precursor to their full-length release on August 25, “Marvel” encapsulates the band’s distinctive indie-punk essence. “Marvel” is masterfully woven together with the heartfelt delivery of lead vocalist Dylan Slocum and adds an authentic and vulnerable dimension to the release.

As the track unfolds, a gradual crescendo of emotional intensity takes hold, propelled by the dynamic interplay of the band’s instrumentation and Slocum’s impassioned vocals. The chorus emerges as a particularly potent instance of catharsis, with the resolute lyrics, “Stay alive out of spite,” standing as a defiant declaration of inner strength in the face of self-doubt. The emotional journey navigated within the song mirrors the complexities of the human experience, resonating with listeners on a profound level.

“Marvel’ is the backbone of the album thematically,” Slocum shares. “It was written for a friend, and the chorus was a throwaway joke that has just sort of stuck. It’s probably the most positive song I’ve ever written and a response to every complaint I’ve ever lodged in other songs.”

He continues, “Find the things you need to stay afloat. Piss off the cosmic forces that would see you perish. Find what you need. Stay alive.”

Ahead of the group’s No Joy album release, Spanish Love Songs will travel to Australia for a string of performances before making their way to the UK with Hot Mulligan as support. Upon their return from the UK, the group will head back out on the road in early November with Hot Mulligan, Heart Attack Man, and Ben Quad as special guests.
