The twin duo Softcult has unleashed their latest offering, “Shortest Fuse.” Kicking off the track with “Yeah your boss forgot the payroll again/He’s such a capitalist/Don’t even know what we spent it on/Now you’re selling your guitar to pay rent,” the new release is a critique of capitalism societies and the hardships we’ve surely all experienced within recent years.
As the pair progress toward the second verse of the track, the distinctive shoegaze-alternative fusion that has become a signature of their creations reaches its peak. The result is a crescendo of dreamy and guitar-laden instrumentation erupting through your speakers for an immersive listening experience that envelops you from every angle.

“Capitalism seems to be designed to keep underprivileged people toiling in a never-ending cycle of debt and poverty where their labor is underpaid in order to profit their employers,” twins Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn share. “The benefits of capitalism are rarely equally distributed, accruing wealth to a very small percentage of the population. Built on the notion of greed, benefitting only by paying workers less than what their labor is worth, it’s difficult to not become disenfranchised with capitalism when you exist in this reality and see no end in sight. We can’t become complicit in a system that is designed to keep us down.”
Following the release of their latest single, Softcult is scheduled to hit the road with Superbloom as support and kicks off on February 8 in Boston, MA.
