Singles Lost in Time: The Appleseed Cast + From Autumn to Ashes

Hello and welcome to Singles Lost in Time, where we dig through our library here at idobi (like monks sifting through historical texts) and we dust off some absolute bangers that never got their proper time in the sun.

The Appleseed Cast – “Fishing the Sky”

For the first minute and a half of “Fishing the Sky”, The Appleseed Cast builds a sonic world to envelop you. Layered guitars and intricate drumming drench you in the nautical theme of their sophomore album Mare Vitalis. When lead singer Chris Crisci finally joins the music, you’ll feel the full force of the song. Find some thick cushy headphones and close your eyes while listening to this wave of sound.

From Autumn to Ashes – “Sugar Wolf”

From Autumn to Ashes ratchets up the tension in “Sugar Wolf”. Metalcore and post-hardcore blend throughout the song until the bridge. Lead singer/drummer Francis Mark then expertly juxtaposes the melodic bridge with the rest of the song’s tension to drive home the lyrical meaning. “When did the music turn into a beauty pageant” and “Less of an artist, you are more;more of a Xerox machine” leave no doubt as to the band’s feelings on the state of the mid-aughts music scene. Lyrically and musically compelling, “Sugar Wolf” is worth your time.
