Singles Lost in Time: mewithoutYou + Periphery

Hello and welcome to Singles Lost in Time, where we dig through our library here at idobi (like monks sifting through historical texts) and we dust off some absolute bangers that never got their proper time in the sun.

mewithoutYou – “January 1979”

Post-hardcore? Prog-punk? Emo? mewithoutYou has been labeled many things. What is certain is mewithoutYou makes music for themselves and their fans, not journalists. Regardless, “January 1979” is a great example of their experimental nature. Filled with dreamy guitars and stream-of-consciousness vocals, “January 1979” excites the senses and rewards multiple listens.

Periphery – “Icarus Lives”

From the first guitar squeal, “Icarus Lives” burrows its way into your lizard brain. Periphery uses math rock time signatures and alternating clean/dirty vocals to create nuclear fission levels of energy. Whether you’re a band-tee or smoking jacket-wearing metalhead, Periphery’s brand of djent is worth your time.
