Royal & the Serpent has vowed to deliver double-sided singles all throughout the summer. Today she gifts us with RAT TRAP 2: the burn, the second installment of this unique release cycle. Brand new tracks, “JUNKIE” and “SLUG” are the pairing to hit our speakers on this lovely Friday. “JUNKIE” starts off with stripped-back acoustic guitars and soft vocals, oozing with a late 90’s singer/songwriter vibe. Of course, in classic Royal fashion, it kicks in for a full band chorus. “SLUG” is a little more upbeat throughout, driven by groovy drums and a raspy vocal delivery. The bridge is totally the best part of the song. Both tracks are fully immersed in the back and forth of a toxic love story on RAT TRAP 2: the burn. This is only more solidified in the narratives of the accompanying music videos for each.
“OUCH! what was that?? oh! LOVE! yeah…sometimes it stings,” shares Royal about the tracks. “welcome to trap 2 – the continuation of the RAT TRAP series, where our lead character falls for a boy that can’t help but break her heart (over and over again). I am so excited to share these songs and continue this story – thank you immensely for your time and consideration, these songs are from a deep place in my heart and I cannot wait to keep feeding the plot line.”

Earlier this year, Royal dropped RAT TRAP 1: the blueprint that included singles, “ONE NATION UNDERDOGS” and “ASTROTURF“. Both songs focused mainly on self-love and individuality. We can’t wait to see what Royal does next. Check out the two videos she gave us today below!
