Olivia Rodrigo Is Bled Dry In New Song “Vampire”

The alt-pop princess has risen once again! Olivia Rodrigo returns today with the first taste of her sophomore effort titled, GUTS. The new track is “vampire” and it is the perfect mix of what Rodrigo does best. The song opens like a ballad with a soft piano and climbing vocals. You can feel the build to an inevitable explosion almost instantly. It nods to a mixture of her popular tracks “happier” and “brutal”

Olivia Rodrigo shared a few words on Instagram about her excitement surrounding the new release: “vampire song and video out now🧛🏼. I made it with my very talented wonderful friend dan nigro last winter and created the video with the incredible petra collins . writing this song helped me sort through lots of feelings of regret, anger, and heartache. it’s one of my favorite songs on the album and it felt very cathartic to finish. im so happy it’s in your hands now and I hope it helps u deal with any bloodsuckers in your life. all my thanks 4ever ❤️”

The song is cool, but the video is incredible. It starts with a glossy filter, showing Rodgrigo laying in a field in a white dress, singing into a 50’s style microphone. It feels very reminiscent of Twilight. Once the first verse comes to a close, the framing pans out to reveal Rodrigo on a stage set, in front of an audience. They are watching her every move. One of the lights from the stage falls, injuring her. The rest of the video follows her attempting to escape the public eye, all  while she suffers. You have to watch the video to fully appreciate the narrative. Check it out below!

GUTS drops September 8th and you can pre-order the album here. We are sure to receive at least a few more singles before we are blessed with the full collection. In the meantime, enjoy “vampire”!
