The pop-rock quartet is back with another smash. NOT.MY.WEEKEND’s latest single “SHUT.UP” is an angst-driven track about the difficulty of biting your tongue in certain situations. When you don’t know where your relationship is headed, it can be challenging to express how you really feel.

Frontman Patrick Gilchrist’s unabashedly honest lyrics are paired with a full bodied arrangement that bridges the gap between the pop and alternative worlds. There are hints of the Jonas Brothers’ vocal melodies, mixed with the guitar tones and heavy-hitting drum fills of early Fall Out Boy and All-American Rejects. It is a compelling combination that hooks the listener in and remains authentic to NOT.MY.WEEKEND’s sound. Yet, they still surprise us with an experimental bridge, adding pulsing synthesizers and a stylistic autotune on Gilchrist’s voice for a moment. The juxtaposition is magical, reminiscent of your favorite Hellogoodbye song.

The band also dropped a new music video to accompany the track. Set in uniquely painted blue and orange rooms, the four-piece stands out amidst its monochromatic surroundings. Similar to their music video for “KNOCK.ME.OUT” featuring Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens, the video plays around with interesting cuts and framing to showcase each band member performing their part. Gilchrist, credited as the director and editor, is spotted holding a blue umbrella that continuously switches into a raincloud. This is a nice touch that symbolizes the anxiety and uncertainty hanging over his head.

What should we expect next from NOT.MY.WEEKEND? Gilchrist has some big plans for the rest of 2023.

“New singles, a couple more music videos, and hopefully a bunch of live shows,” he shares. “We’re posting short-form content on all of our platforms every day no matter what and it’s not always music related so follow us for funny bits as well as good tunes! I’d also like to make some longer form stuff this year!”
