Northpark are a pop-punk band making waves out of Canada in a big way. Born and raised in Ontario, they deliver a sound that pulls from their surroundings whilst also basking in the sunshine at the same time. Bringing together the buoyancy of the genre’s roots with the gritty emotional resonance of the modern sound, they are the best of both sides of the coin all wrapped up neatly. And they have just shared their debut album with the world.
It’s called Wasteland and is nine songs of pure and powerful storytelling. Four songs relate to a past relationship, one to a past friendship. Then in between, you have musings on growing older, parental relationships and the effects that where you are in life can have on you and how you treat people. It’s real, raw and relatable in all the right ways. Held together by instrumentals that batter and bruise the heart and soul, it’s a cathartic and crushing listen at times. Most importantly, it is the sound of five best friends sharing their hardest moments with each other. A bond that goes deeper than music.
It’s a record that the whole band can be incredibly proud of.
