Today we talk about Netflix suing The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical, The 1975’s teaser clip, and a new album announcement from Carly Rae Jepsen.
Netflix Sues The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical
Netflix is wanting to put a stop to the wildly successful Unofficial Bridgerton Musical. The musical, based on the Netflix original series, was created by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear and found a fan base via TikTok. The musical is so loved that it won a Grammy this past year for Best Musical Theater Album. Netflix showed support for the project when it was simply viral TikToks and a Spotify album. Now Barlow and Bear have leveled up their commitment and have begun promoting a full staged musical with Broadway actors and the National Symphony Orchestra. On top of that, they’ve started selling merchandise. As of Friday, Netflix is suing the pair for using intellectual property for financial gain without permission. The lawsuit says, “Bridgerton reflects the creative work and hard-earned success of hundreds of artists and Netflix employees. Netflix owns the exclusive right to create Bridgerton songs, musicals, or any other derivative works based on Bridgerton. Barlow & Bear cannot take that right — made valuable by others’ hard work — for themselves, without permission. Yet that is exactly what they have done.”
TikTok has created a great space for people to express their talents in an easy way. However, there is a line between having fun and showing support and completely using others’ property for financial gain. You know, when laws and stuff like that start to get involved. Maybe in a perfect world the two groups can come together to give the fans what they want.

More of a Tease from The 1975
The 1975 has mastered the art of teasing us. The band shared a clip of their new single “Happiness” on their socials today. The full song and video will drop tomorrow at 5:30pm BST. In the video we see Matty Healy take a drink and a puff of a cigar, before walking up a couple of steps to take out a cigarette and turn towards a stereo system. This isn’t the first time they’ve teased this single so fans have already been counting down until tomorrow. There is guitar in the background but the video cuts off before we get any lyrics. As a reminder, The 1975’s next album Being Funny in a Foreign Language drops on October 14th. Watch the clip for yourself below!

Carly Rae Jepsen’s New Album
One of the absolute gems modern music has given us is Carly Rae Jepsen. The queen herself has announced she will be dropping an album on October 21st. Jepsen has released some music here and there, including the song “Move Me” last month and “Western Wind” in May, but The Loneliest Time will be her first album since 2019. Before this, she had also let fans know she’ll be hitting the road for the North American So Nice Tour in September. She’s already spent her summer in other countries but will kick off the tour in Boston on September 26th and wrap up in Chicago on November 5th. If you haven’t already, get your tickets here!
