New Years Day is getting into the Halloween spirit with their merciless new single, “Vampyre.” The heavy and spookily-themed song is a hard-hitting follow-up to the band’s 2022 single, “Hurts Like Hell.” Juxtaposing drop-tuned guitar breakdowns with frontwoman Ash Costello’s soaring vocal delivery, the track tells an empowering story about escaping a relationship with a narcissist. It’s a reminder that no matter how scary it can be, nobody can take away a woman’s power and strength to move forward beyond the pain and trauma.

Costello explains the symbolism behind the new single.“‘Vampyre’ is a song for anyone who has battled or is battling a malignant narcissist, which, essentially, is a certain kind of person who tries to suck the life out of you,” she says. “Since I have personally experienced living with this type of monster, I wanted to write a song specifically for anyone else going through something similar in hopes it may help them discover some strength or help give them the power to overcome it. So this song is for anyone who has dealt with this type of person. It insists, ‘You’re not going to drain the life from me.’”
New Years Day is hitting the road in November for a 22-date run opening for In This Moment and Ice Nine Kills. Joining the entire tour from November 3 in Gary, IN, to the final show in Wheeling, WV, the Kiss Of Death Tour will immerse fans in a show that references horror movies, gothic literature, and comic book aesthetics at every turn. There is a narrative that runs through each band’s music and branding, making the concert experience feel more like a musical theatre production rather than musicians playing their instruments. New Years Day is no exception, and each decision they make onstage and off is intentional.
