Let’s start with everyone taking a collective deep breath… As fans swarm (see what we did there?) to social media to reminisce about My Chemical Romance’s triumphant return 4 years ago today, on October 31, 2019, some astute members of the MCRmy have also spotted what they believe to be a tantalizing hint at a new My Chem album or new music teaser.
In a since-deleted Instagram Story post by a close friend of the band under the handle, @bigwormser, a seemingly harmless photo that could mean absolutely nothing has set the devoted fandom abuzz. The photo in question, which has now been widely circulated across social media, features an “I’m Not OK” art print, a partial glimpse at an acoustic guitar, and a conspicuous yellow post-it note stuck to the frame of the art print bearing a possible cryptic message that reads, “5OON.” Since this revelation, 5OON has subsequently started to trend on X (formerly Twitter), with fans grasping onto all the hope they have within them that this means something.

Obviously, fans have been on pins and needles praying for a fifth My Chemical Romance album. A new album would mark the band’s follow-up and first full collection since 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. While this photograph may ultimately signify very little, fans are fervently speculating that the post-it note could potentially hold the secrets of a fifth album.
One X/Twitter user under the handle @venomstigmata posted the image to their feed, saying, “worm. wormothy. wormetheus. what in the fuck is 5OON? 5 soon? mcr5 soon?? listen, i’m going to do crimes soon if you know what i’m sayin brother.” This post has been viewed more than 5,000 times since discovering the image 13 hours ago.

While we patiently wait to see what—if anything—the band is planning, we’d be remiss if we didn’t take this chance to wish the band’s guitarist, Frank Iero, a very spooky and happy birthday!
