Modern Chemistry Release Double Single Under Solo Monikers

Modern Chemistry is made up of Joe Zorzi and Brendan Hourican, or as they like to be known under their solo monikers, thepaintingcompany and Brendan the Navigator. After four EPs and two albums, and no intention of slowing down, the pair have decided to have a moment of “going solo together” for a new release.

That release is a split single, featuring one song from each artist. And they are both excellent.

thepaintingcompany is responsible for just a little off!”, a buoyant piece of sky-scraping indie joyfulness that echos around the head. Taking sounds from the 80’s and pushing them through a modern mesh, it’s a brilliantly catchy bop.

And Brendan The Navigator has put together “Animal”, more of a singer-songwriter exercise, full of blipping synths and atmospheric builds. A rousing piece of self-assessment wrapped in a coat of prickly noise, it’s bright and breezy in all the right ways.

Together the tracks show off a duo with a vast array of ideas at their disposal and inspiration overflowing from every well. It’s an exciting place to be for Modern Chemistry, and the future feels like even more infinite than it did yesterday.
