There’s a chill in the air signifying that fall is on its way. This can only mean one thing…it’s Halloween season, baby! And what better way to celebrate the spookiest time of the year than with your favorite witches, ghosts, and vampires? Specifically, it’s time for an annual Twilight rewatch. For fans of Edward and Bella, fabulous news just dropped.

According to Netflix’s official Twitter/X account, a new Twilight series is on the way. Their post reads, “Midnight Sun, an animated series adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s novel and the retelling of Twilight from Edward Cullen’s perspective, is officially in development.”

Midnight Sun was published on August 4, 2020. However, Meyer had started writing the book in 2008 following the release of Breaking Dawn. She ultimately took a break from her creative process following a chapter leak.

According to reports from Deadline, Sinead Daly, a writer for Tell Me Lies, The Get Down, and more, is set to write and executive produce the forthcoming series.

Additionally, author Stephenie Meyer will executive produce the series with Meghan Hibbett for Fickle Fish Films.

Plus, this animated series may signal the beginning of a brand-new Twilight era. Meyer previously stated that she has more book plans beyond Midnight Sun. “There are two more books I think in the world that I want to write. I have got them outlined and a chapter written I think of the first one, so I know it’s there. I am not ready to do that right now, I want to do something brand new,” Meyer said in 2020 at a Books-A-Million’s virtual live event. “For me, a lot of the joy of writing comes from creating and I really want to do a new world and new rules and new mythology. Mythology is kind of my thing.”

Fingers crossed that we’re in for years and years of Edward and Bella content to come. And perhaps a thrilling new alternative soundtrack, too.
