Måneskin Show Us Italian Amor On “Honey (are you coming?)”

Måneskin Summer 2023

As the highly-anticipated MTV VMAs draw closer on September 12, the spotlight falls on Måneskin, nominees for “Best Rock” for “The Loneliest,” who reemerge with a sonic lightning bolt in the form of their latest single, “HONEY (ARE YOU COMING?)” Following the resounding success of their January chart-topping album, RUSH!, this new release serves as a sensational sonic explosion, harnessing the quartet’s inexhaustible energy. Bursting with attitude, “HONEY (ARE YOU COMING?)” showcases Måneskin’s mastery in crafting a stadium-ready, all-encompassing sound that encapsulates their musical prowess highlighting Italian amor in a way only they could. And just in time for their VMAs performance and forthcoming RUSH! WORLD TOUR.

The heart of the track pulsates with the force of the group’s signature guitar work that emerges as the lifeblood propelling the song’s vivacity. This signature element of the group offers a playful nod to their rock and punk influences, but also imbues the track with a sense of urgency and excitement, immediately seizing even the most casual listener’s attention.

The chorus of “HONEY (ARE YOU COMING?)” emerges as the centerpiece with frontman Damiano David’s gritty prowess and vulnerable delivery piercing through the instrumental tapestry curated by his bandmates. The raw-infused richness of David’s vocals soar alongside the throbbing instrumentation, which beautifully contrasts against the backdrop of the song’s more raucous elements.

In an exclusive Spotify storyline curated by the band, they share, “The story of HONEY is very different from our usual. We managed to keep a strong contrast between the melancholic bits and lyrics, and the up tempo and dance energy of the song through a lot of minor riffs and chords. This musical contrast talks about the inner fear of the unknown and the need of adventure and discovering something new. These feelings are connected to the idea of bringing someone special into a new and magical meeting place, of hope and salvation. HONEY is a love song. It talks about the feeling of meeting someone and discovering the same sadness and feeling out of place in their eyes just to invite them towards an unknown adventure together. No one knows what is going to happen, but the ride is the ultimate important bit to enjoy.”

Reflecting on the creative process behind the track, bassist Victoria De Angelis shares, “We wrote the song right after the last tour, we still had a lot of energy from the touring and the travelling. We wrote it in between London and LA. We’re really happy with the result and we think it’s something quite new for us.”

“It’s the story of someone who has no gender or anything, you decide whoever it is,” Damiano David adds. “Find someone else and they can see in their eyes that there’s some sadness that they feel out of place and it’s an invitation from one person to another to join them into this new adventure without knowing what they’re actually going to find, but just enjoy the adventure.”
