Following the release of her latest single “poser” last month, LØLØ has returned with a mesmerizing acoustic rendition of Green Day’s “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams.” The track appeared on the trio’s iconic American Idiot album. Marking the group’s seventh record released in September 2004, it spawned several GRAMMY nominations and won the award for Best Rock Album. “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” won the award for Record of the Year.
The cover arrives as a part of the Recording Academy/GRAMMYs Reimagined Series on YouTube. The series is designed to give emerging artists a chance to showcase a song and/or artist that has inspired them throughout their careers. LØLØ shared on X/Twitter, “Beyond honored the @RecordingAcad asked me to be a part of this!! I got to cover @GreenDay’s blvd of broken dreams!!” The video description details Green Day as a “childhood inspiration” for her.
Stripping back the distorted guitars that kick off the original version of the song, LØLØ captures the same isolated loneliness as Billie Joe Armstrong and co. with an acoustic guitar in hand and the assistance of jakkyboí on a secondary guitar. Her beautiful delivery effortlessly injects an added layer of emotion and seclusion, singing the chorus, “My shadow’s the only one that walks beside me/My shallow heart’s the only thing that’s beatin’/Sometimes, I wish someone out there will find me/’Til then, I walk alone.”
