On August 24, Linkin Park dropped a teaser video with a simple countdown. Fans speculated that the band may announce Deryck Whibley as their new lead singer, as Sum 41 also teased an announcement for the same day. Though, the “Fat Lip” artist ultimately had to dismiss rumors before they spun out of control.
On August 28, Linkin Park officially shared a live video counting down to 0. Then, the video showed glitch graphics and began to count up. On Linkin Park’s social media, they shared a video of the clock counting up again with the note, “It’s only a matter of time…” You can see the live video counting up below.
Fans were hoping for a big announcement the second the countdown ran out, but were surprised, even annoyed to see it reveal a count-up. Some even took to Twitter/X to question if Linkin Park was trolling the whole time.
Of course, many Twitter/X meme and joke reactions were hilarious. I mean, if we didn’t laugh, we would cry, right?
As we wait to possibly hear more from the band in coming days, it is clear that there is a palpable excitement around the possibility of more music, shows, and more.
On August 26, Forbes reported that Hybrid Theory was once again charting on Billboard. Fingers crossed that any possible announcement is worth the additional wait.
UPDATE: Of note, the official site housing the YouTube countdown now says, “Be Part Of Something September 5.” Our fingers are crossed for a real announcement this time.
