Like Moths To Flames has announced their new album, THE CYCLES OF TRYING TO COPE, via UNFD. It comes out on May 10, and the third single from the upcoming LP, “Kintsugi,” released today, taps into a melodic metalcore vibe paired with a black-and-white music video. They’ve previously released two other tracks, and the band says each song relates to a coping “cycle.”

The intro starts heavy with guitars and goes into clean vocals from frontman Chris Roetter. He belts screams while building up into the verse. The lyrics, “When it breaks/What piece am I left with?” break down the overall meaning behind the heart-wrenching single. The additional pain in Roetter’s singing hits deeper to understand the greater despair of working through a difficult time.

Kintsugi” means to repair cracks with gold. Roetter explains the meaning behind this track’s name. “When things go wrong, I think we are left to pick up the pieces and forced to choose which piece to leave with.” He explains, “If it’s not possible to leave with everything the way it was before it broke, how do you know what piece to hold onto?”

Previous tracks, “Angels Weep” and “Paradigm Trigger,” embody the classic Like Moths To Flames rousing screams paired with heavy instrumentals. This turn, with their latest tune, explores a vulnerable area of the act, which fans can expect to explore more of with the rest of the incoming album.

“The record encapsulates the many varying emotions we go through when trying to grow through life. The last few years, I really tried to harness some of those emotions as a catalyst to get through whatever I was going through at the time. I think we all have our own unique ways to cope and these are mine.” Roetter says.
