Koyo have shared a new track from their upcoming debut album called “Life’s A Pill“. If the build-up to the record’s release has taught us anything, it’s that the band are very much the future when it comes to crossing the streams between hardcore and emo. They deliver the sort of crushing emotional density that made bands like Taking Back Sunday and The Movielife such stars. But they also embody the same proud and powerful characteristics that continue to fill up VFW halls up and down the country every weekend. It’s a truly special position to be in, uniting communities and lighting up lives. And with “Life’s A Pill“, the fun continues in the most extravagant way.
The track is an emotional rollercoaster in more ways than one. Musically it ebbs and flows between furious noise and melodic resonance. But below the surface, it is a personal look into vocalist Joey Chiaramonte‘s experiences. Facing off against grief whilst still trying to continue on the path that you have worked so hard to create. It’s a reminder to face off against the hardest parts of life, because you never know when it will rear its head and try and knock you off balance.

Joey had this to say about the track:
“’Life’s A Pill’ is a model Koyo song. TJ had written that song around the Drives Out East era of the band. I remember recording vocals for a demo version of the song with the help of Marissa from Fleshwater when I was staying in Lowell, MA for a bit, and just feeling something unexplainably cathartic when I had finished laying it out. This song was written about the passing of a family member while I was on my first full US tour, and the ways in which I struggled with that.
“Because of the heavy subject matter, I was a little intimidated in terms of how to approach the video. The incredibly talented Eric Richter would be the perfect fit to help create a video that looks how I felt. Narrative took a bit of a back seat as we just wanted to create something abstract. Something visually stunning, yet hard to look at. Haunting, but not scary, and I think he absolutely aced it. Grateful for his talent and friendship, Eric is an inspiring individual.”
Koyo’s debut album, Would You Miss It? will be released on September 29 via Pure Noise Records. It will also feature the previously released “You’re On The List (Minus One)” and “Anthem“. There is also “Message Like a Bomb”, which features the legendary Daryl Palumbo.
