Today’s Inbox Jukebox Presents is about to touch your heart. Singer-songwriter Jutes recently dropped by the idobi Studio to perform an incredibly moving acoustic Session of his new track “I’m Not Ready”. It’s being released today to honor the memory his uncle Stephen, on the first anniversary of his passing.

“‘I’m Not Ready’ is a song I wrote after my Uncle Stephen passed away last year. The death was out of no where and shook my whole world,” Jutes says. The song is raw and heartbreaking as he pours all his emotions into every lyric. “I was extremely close with my uncle and learned so much about being true to myself from him. I wasn’t ready to write this song but when I sat down to write one day the words just started coming out.”

“I dedicate this song, this performance and my whole EP to him. I love and miss you Uncle Stephen <3”

You can hear how cathartic it was for Jutes to write this song. Saying the truth—even when it hurts to speak it out loud—is a powerful experience. The stripped down version of “I’m Not Ready” allows that emotion to really come to the surface and will make you tear up over the poignant sense of loss. “I started to cry and sat down and wrote the song very quickly. I had a hard time recording it, was very emotional,” Jutes says.

From the moment you hear the delicate guitar notes come in and Jutes starts to sing the song’s story, your heart will go out to him and anyone else struggling. It’s important to let yourself grieve and to talk about your emotions in order to process them and start to heal. “I’m Not Ready” is a touching tribute and will move you in every sense of the word. Hit play on the acoustic idobi Session below and we’ll leave you with this note from Jutes: “I dedicate this song, this performance and my whole EP to him. I love and miss you Uncle Stephen <3”

Fun fact about Jutes:

“A lot of people don’t know I grew up on a farm in Kars, Ottawa. We had horses, goats, llamas, chickens, pigs, emus, turkey, geese…and our attic was full of bats. Sometimes they would get into the house n fly around and we’d have to swipe them out the air with a towel then free them outside lol” –Jutes
