iDKHOW Invite Us To The ‘GLOOM DIVISION’ With New Album

iDKHOW have made their long-awaited return with their new album GLOOM DIVISION. It’s been quite a while since we’ve had a new record from Dallon Weekes. You have to go back to October 2020 and the release of their debut Razzmatazz for full-length satisfaction. A glitch-filled, dancefloor-filling, curiously curious piece of old-school disco and new-school pop. It was a statement piece to end all statement pieces. A release that perfectly surmised everything that I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME has stood for since its beginnings in 2017, it has been left to marinate for a long time. However, when word that a new era was about to begin, via a statement released by Dallon, the cogs started turning again.

A new album is here and ready to go, and it is titled GLOOM DIVISION. It will be released on February 24 via Concord Records. The artwork, a beautifully vibrant set piece, shows Dallon sitting on the edge of orange oblivion. The sunshine beating down on him from above, and his feet melting into dark tar below. It’s a juxtaposition of emotion and vibrance that we hope shows up within the music that can be found on it.

Dallon had this to say about what the record represents for him:

“Writing has always been an outlet to exorcize your demons or difficult emotions, but with GLOOM DIVISION, I made a conscious effort to stop censoring myself when it comes to the subject material, or what I wanted to say.”

And the first taste is here as well. That comes in the form of “WHAT LOVE?“. A track that shimmers with the same punchy bass and flipping synths that have defined the band’s journey up until now. Yet there is a different sort of soul sitting at the core. Ebbing and flowing between disco sensuality and emotional resonance. It’s Dallon showcasing his most deepfelt of feelings in a way that only he can.

And the video is just as intense and insatiable. With Pastel colors and quirky set pieces aplenty, it’s like travelling back in time to the no-holds-barred rawness of the 80s. Keith Harring, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichenstein come to mind as Dallon finds himself in more decadent and delirious situations.
