In the wake of their successful Valentine’s Day hit, “Uncomplicated,” Hey Violet has unveiled their latest gem, “Best Imposter.” Their latest offering delves fearlessly into the depths of imposter syndrome, a sentiment so universally relatable that those who haven’t encountered it are fortunate. Infused with raw vulnerability and unbridled honesty, the trio delivers a candid exploration of the inner turmoil and self-doubt that accompanies imposter syndrome.
“For a long time, I’ve grappled with a lot of deeply held insecurities and how those show up in my life,” Rena Lovelis shares in a press release. I deal with a lot of self-doubt.”
She continues, “Best Imposter is about experiencing intense imposter syndrome. It gives some insight into what Nia and I felt growing up, being in this in-between stage where we’re sort of from New York and also sort of from California, and sort of millennial, but sort of Gen Z. We always felt like we were floating in the strange world of close, but not quite, and that really put a weight on us when people would question if we deserved certain opportunities that the band got. Like, ‘Damn, are we supposed to be here?’ At the end of the day, someone will always have something to say. It’s about validating our own voices and knowing we deserve a seat at the table, in spite of any self-doubt or insecurity or anxiety.”

The resonant chorus, echoing with infectious energy, encapsulates the visceral fear of losing everything and the crippling feelings of navigating imposter syndrome. “I’m scared that I’ll lose it all/And become what everybody thought/Impossible, impossible/’Cause I’m my own damn obstacle/Given everything I’ve got to offer/Still, I’m nothing but the best imposter.” These poignant lyrics delve deep into the turbulent realm of self-doubt, painting a candid portrait of battling against oneself, of being the architect of one’s own downfall. While massively difficult to overcome, the closing layered echoes offer a sliver of hope, knowing that you’re not alone in those feelings.
