Halsey live debuted their new single “Ego” on the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards stage on September 11. Not only was she totally giving Freaky Friday Pink Slip energy, but also had a special guest as part of the girl garage rock band: Måneskin bassist Victoria De Angelis.
On Twitter/X, Halsey shared, “My dream 90s garage rock band for EGO at the @vmas 4 dolls in a dollhouse. I’m so proud of this whole performance and I built every detail of it myself because I was determined to go up there and have FUN. AND I DID.”

“Ego” is set to appear on Halsey’s forthcoming record The Great Impersonator, available on October 25 via Columbia Records. The LP is meant to take the listener through various musical decades. Previously, they also released their Britney Spears-inspired “Lucky” featuring a nostalgia-inducing Y2K-coded music video.
In a pre-show interview with Billboard, Halsey noted, “The ’90s felt the most natural, the ’80s was the most fun—the big hair, the makeup, everything. But musically, the ’70s, we used all authentic recording equipment from the ’70s to make that portion of the record. And it was just so cool. I needed out so much over that part.”
Aside from making a dazzling “Ego” live debut, Halsey and their partner, actor Avan Jogia, confirmed that they are indeed engaged. It was certainly a “stand-out “Lucky” night for the singer.
