Green Day Debut Brand New Song “1981” Live

Green Day has been teasing the possibility of a new album over the course of the last year. Finally, the legendary punk rock trio debuted a brand new song live during their festival set on Sunday night. The track is called “1981” and it is in perfect Green Day fashion. Let’s all take a moment to thank those who decided to film it for all of us to enjoy at home! The new track is fast-paced, super catchy, and just all around fun.

Performed right in between “Warning” and their cover of “Knowledge” by Operation Ivy. Even though we have only heard this new song once, and live, the chorus will stick in your head. Billie Joel Armstrong sings “She’s gonna bang her head like 1981” over and over. We’ll be singing it all week. Green Day hasn’t really shared much else about the track, but we at least know it exists now. It is safe to say fans can expect new music pretty soon. With the band headlining the upcoming When We Were Young Fest in October, there’s a good chance we’ll get something before then. Check out the fan footage of “1981” below!

Earlier this year Green Day released the 25 year anniversary edition of their iconic album Nimrod. Featuring the classics “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)“, “Hitchin’ A Ride”, and “Nice Guys Finish Last“, along with several demo versions. Check out the full line up for When We Were Young Fest below. Hopefully they’ll play some new songs there as well!
