Fresh Pressed [new music friday] – 196

What better way to kick off a weekend than with new music? Fridays are always chock full of the latest songs and albums ready to be the soundtrack to everyone’s antics, and here you’ll find some of the week’s standout releases. Whether you’re ready to spin an anticipated song from a favorite artist or just taking a look at what’s out there, there’s a whole lot of tunes to dive right into. Who knows—maybe you’ll find your next obsession.

The Maine
“Thnks fr th Mmrs”

It’s the cover we never knew we needed. The Maine pays homage to a Fall Out Boy classic, covering “Thnks fr th Mmrs” in typical stripped-down Maine fashion. A change of pace compared to the upbeat original, this revamp should impress not only fans but FOB, too.

Twenty One Pilots
“Choker”

The glitchy and atmospheric pop of “Choker” just oozes cool. Twenty One Pilots’ new single is unlike anything the band’s done before—imagine if Aphex Twin remixed a Pilots song sung by Rivers Cuomo.

Machine Gun Kelly
“Love Race” (feat. Kellin Quinn)

Machine Gun Kelly steps into the pop-punk ring once again with “Love Race”, proving Tickets to My Downfall wasn’t just a fluke. Featuring shrieking infectious vocals from Sleeping With Sirens frontman Kellin Quinn, the track also sports co-writing from Travis Barker and Relient K’s Matt Thiessen. It’s basically a pop-punk homecoming.

Waterparks
“You’d Be Paranoid Too
(If Everyone Was Out to Get You)“

While most of Waterparks’ new stuff is out there in left field, “You’d Be Paranoid Too (If Everyone Was Out to Get You)” is maybe the most straight-forward of the bunch so far. Supported by rapid-fire verses and a scream-a-long chorus, the track goes to another level when the guitar solo hits.

Stand Atlantic
“Deathwish” (feat. Nothing,nowhere.)

Stand Atlantic keeps getting better with every ounce of new material, and nothing, nowhere. helps bring out the best of them on “Deathwish”. Pop-punk at its core, the honest lyrics coupled with an aggressive vocal delivery makes this a highlight for the band.

DJ Khaled
Khaled Khaled

Back with anotha one, DJ Khaled drops his most star-studded record to date. Khaled Khaled is a humble LP of sorts for music’s biggest hype man, coming in at only 14 tracks when he could very well pack it with over 20. Still, he manages to fit in some big collabs with the likes of Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z, eliminating filler to provide only bangers.

Billie Eilish
“Your Power”

The new era from Billie Eilish starts off tranquil and dreamy with the folk-tinged “Your Power”. The dynamic duo of Eilish and her brother Finneas are unmatched in this environment, creating a ballad that shows the best of her songwriting abilities atop barely-audible guitar strums.

Willow
“t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l”
(feat. Travis Barker)

Willow Smith has come a long way from whipping her hair back and forth in 2010—now she shapeshifts into whatever genre feels right at the moment. For “t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l”, Willow enlists Travis Barker to craft an unexpected but fun, rock-heavy tune with a nostalgic guitar riff and bellowing chorus.
