Creature Cult, the musical moniker of Connar Ridd, has released a new track, and it’s a stark one. That’s to be expected from an artist that pens songs on everything from homophobia to football hooliganism. But their new track looks more inwards. It also expresses the sort of honest feeling that many struggle to admit about themselves.
It’s called “i did this to myself” and is all about how mental health. Specifically the means of coping with it, can affect every relationship you have. Set to a crushing electronic beat, with plenty of splatters of rock and metal worship, it is stark and sincere. Looking at how we treat the people we love the most when everything gets a bit too much, it’s sure to hit home.
Connor had this to say about it:
“I set myself to self-destruct and pushed everyone away when I needed them most. I was going through some heavy stuff in my life and I felt completely at my limit and couldn’t handle everyday social situations. I didn’t see any of my friends or family and made everything as difficult for myself as possible. I guess you only know what you had once it’s gone. This song is about coming out the other side and realising what I’d lost.”
