Citizen Shares Driving New Single “Hyper Trophy”

Today, the respected alternative rock band, Citizen has returned with a super-charged new single and music video for “Hyper Trophy“. This track comes as the second teaser following “If You’re Lonely, from their upcoming fifth studio album Calling The Dogs due out October 6th via Run For Cover Records. The new track kicks off with a groovy guitar riff, before immediately jumping into a driving drum beat. On first listen, it presents itself as the perfect song for a workout, going for a run, or driving in your car. The song feels like a great fall weather song, coming just in time for the cooler season.

Director and guitarist of Citizen, Mason Mercer shares on the making of the video, “Using infrared and thermal imaging, we filmed on a pitch black desert ranch in SoCal in the middle of the night wrapping at 4am… We couldn’t see anything, but the camera could see everything. Our themes were kept purposefully ambiguous and left simply at ‘pursuit’ and ‘mission’.”

Speaking on the brand new track Hyper Trophy,” frontman Mat Kerekes shares, “Sometimes, though you are trying hard to accomplish something, it can’t be done. This song is about a relentless pursuit of an objective, but still failing – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If you find something you love and pour everything you have into that, I find that admirable regardless of the outcome.”
