After marking her return to her pop-punk roots in spring 2023 with “People That I Love Leave,” Cassadee Pope has kicked off the new year with her punchy new single, “Eye Contact.”
“I wanted to write a song about the lasting effects a liar has on someone else,” Pope shares. “Sometimes, the very thought of maintaining eye contact with someone after being betrayed can feel impossible. I wanted to compliment the lyric with a heavy approach sonically. I feel like that really gets the frustration across.”

She adds on her social media with the release, “Something we can all relate to, unfortunately. I hope you have as much fun listening to it as I did making it.”
An instant anthem, “Eye Contact” emanates an essence reminiscent of early Avril Lavigne, capturing the listener with its irresistibly catchy chorus: “You said you’d never tell me goodbye/You left in the dark I guess you were right.” With its one-two-punch melodies and empowering lyrics, the song encapsulates the bittersweet sentiment of heartbreak and betrayal, along with the aftermath of a relationship gone sour.
Cassadee Pope made waves with her return to her pop-punk last year. Alongside a collection of new songs, including a collaboration with Taylor Acorn, it was clear Pope was on a mission to reclaim her throne in the genre. Her efforts were marked by a series of infectious releases and surprise appearances at When We Were Young Fest. She shared the stage with acts like Yellowcard, Michelle Branch, and Simple Plan.
Luckily for us, Pope is set to reunite with her former group, Hey Monday, at WWWY this October. They are scheduled to perform their acclaimed 2008 full-length album, Hold On Tight. You can check out Pope’s forthcoming performances below and grab tickets to see her live here.
